[Vwdiesel] Small displacement turbo

Hi Folks;

                I'm on the finishing touches of putting a stock VW 1.6 turbo
engine in my 1990 VW Fox. It's running good with a 9Q 5 speed but will be
pretty awesome I think when I get it finished.

 

I'm looking for some suggestions for a new engine for my 1981 Dasher Wagon.
I have always thought a 1.5 N/A was a better running engine than a 1.6. My
thought  is to take my 1.6 turbo  block with its oil squirters and turbo
pistons  and install a 1.5 shorter throw crank,. I would have  custom made
lightweight rods made and while I'm at it make them short enough to lower
the compression to perhaps 19 to 1 and therefore run higher boost ( along
with an in intercooler).  Perhaps I can have an engine that gets great
mileage when driven sanely and a lot of fun when driven hard. I know I'm
crazy but perhaps some others have some crazy ideas that might help. One
good thing about this engine is that except for custom Rods I have all the
other parts.
