Somewhere in CA there is a guy that has a 1.6 na in a bug. I know I have seen it in the past 2-3 years, but it was a lot of welding work.

No chance at all. the bug uses a 4-bolt pattern, the kelsel uses a different shape and more bolts aranged in a different pattern. Not too sure about gearing on the Bug transmissions, I don't know of any. Kennedy may sell an addapter for that, but then fitting it under the rear hood may be tricky as well.
