In the 1.6 turbo diesel Fox at 75 miles an hour you can feel the push if you
stomp the throttle. I expect the EGT's would get too high to safely make it
to 100 mph but I'm sure it would do it once. At 70 mph on the flat it only
shows 600F+ so it should run all day at 70 to 75 and still have something
left to pass. Best mileage I would expect to be closer to 60 mph. No turbo
diesel likes your foot in the pump so I'm sure in the big mountains I will
be slowing down and using 4th and in the steepest grades even 3rd.

Back in 1979 I took delivery of a new Rabbit diesel in Europe. It would top
out at 80 MPH on the Autobahn so had to stay in the right lane except when
passing trucks limited to 90 KPH or 56 MPH. When in the left lane you are
supposed to leave your left turn signal on as a warning to the Mercedes &
BMWs going 150+ MPH that you are passing in the left lane. Except for
passing you MUST stay in the right lane in Europe. This is why Citroen
didn't install self canceling turn signals in their cars.
My x-wife managed to get a 90 MPH speeding ticket coming down the mountain
grade on I-80 west of Laramie, Wyoming in the same Rabbit.
