Thanks for the tips... I can only assume the metal clip is broken, as I
can't see it.  Oh well, guess I'll be rigging a new dome light.

They do get pretty brittle over time. Last I checked, you could get a new 
one from azautohaus for about $5.

As mentioned, just push in on the metal clip that sticks out, and pry that 
side down just a bit (about 1/4"). Then, push it over slightly, and the 
other side will release.
