  I never had that much trouble...  Conti belts and it was fine, with one or two adjustments in about 50K miles.  With a Gates belt, the alt belt disintegrated in about 5K!  The worst part is that most of the compressors are missing an ear or two so it makes locking them down a bit harder.  Once the alt started bouncing around, there went the through hole so I had a bushing made.  Bronze doesn't work so had a steel one made.  It's what they do with the rebuilds anyway.  :-)
