The 92 Jetta calls for DOT4, so that is the big difference, it absorbes way less water the DOT 3?

When it came out, it was touted somewhat, as the wonder fluid for  brakes.  
I've since heard nothing but DON'T USE IT.  It's for racing  applications 
only.  I did get in a discussion about why it's not  recommended for regular 
use and I just don't remember why it was.
  The best answer we came up with was to use DOT 4 since it's  compatible 
with about any systems (some tractors won't like it) and it absorbs  water 
WAY less than DOT 3.  Also costs more, but no risk of screwing up a  British 
car from putting DOT 3 in it!  :-P
