[Vwdiesel] Turbo 1.6 diesel Fox

The 1990 Turbo Fox Wagon is up and running with its fresh rebuild. It seems
to have plenty of power and reading the EGT's on the pyro leaves me a good
amount of time to keep my foot in the pump. Since I shut it down to rebuild
the engine in November it is a little hard to compare the before and after
results of the rebuild and the lowering of the compression by taking about
25 thou off the top of the pistons. I will be going to Fresno California for
the weekend so by next week I will have put on two thousand miles. I will
check my mileage carefully at different average speeds and when I get home I
will do a compression check to see where my piston shaving left me. It
starts on the first try after glowing with morning temperatures in the mid
30's. It wants the cold start pulled out and it is unhappy after starting, I
have a push button glow system so I just keep glowing it till it wants to
idle. Below are the spec's of the rig.
1990 VW Fox 2 DR Wagon
1.6 turbo diesel from a Quantum with a stock K24 turbo. It is bored 1mm over
and the pistons were shaved about 25 thousands
9Q 5 speed transmission also from a Quantum.
2.5 inch exhaust system
Cone air intake
Oil cooler from a turbo gas Volvo
Pyrometer and oil pressure gauges.

                Tomorrow or Sunday we should have the rebuilt 1.6 turbo
diesel engine running in my 1990 Fox 2 door Wagon. I decided to lower the
compression some to hopefully let it run cooler and be able to use more
boost. I had the top of the pistons milled about twenty five thousands. They
just barely stick out of the top of the block now at TDC. The milling took
out about half the depth of the swirl pockets in the pistons.

                I will have a report as soon as I get a test run on it.
