[Vwdiesel] thermostat?

I dont' have any experience in temps that low, but from what I've heard
that sounds pretty normal. My 01 takes quite a while to heat up even when
it's down in the 20s.

Even a normally functioning 'stat will bypass a certain amount of coolant
into the radiator though, so you could improve your warmup times by using a
radiator blanket - many people use a piece of cardboard like Loren
mentioned.

Also the upper/lower engine covers help a bit if they aren't in place.
