While I hope that chevy and the others do come out with a diesel car I won't hold my breath. There always is talks and then a certain state likes to change the rules that the makers have worked hard to meet and tool up for have to retool again. Also I think VW has a better chance of the world market then the US big 3 as VW does have a presence in most countries with more options then what can be offered here. Heck, read up on the chicken tax and you will see that was aimed directly at VW which is why VW can't import a truck here and why other makers including ford have to jump through hoops to get some things sold here that are made elsewhere. Also I would have to hope chevy diesels could tow like the VW's can. Just got done with a 38 hour trip from Wisconsin to Virginia and back with 1500lbs behind us on a trailer down and 2000lbs on the trailer on the way back and it was doing 26 MPG the whole way back and 28 MPG down(better then trucks empty) and that was doing the speed limit the whole way as well. And hopefully more auto makers rust proof there cars more like VW. Other then a couple problem areas (inner fender lining from foam rubbing through to bare metal) MK4 vws don't rust much. Not saying VW's walk on water but I which other makers would do a few things. Everything I own I which could be in diesel. My L&G JD Tractor is (which is the reason for the Virginia trip for a rare JD loader for it). Now if I could just find a motorcycle that could be in diesel and sold to the public (searched last year and there is two makers out there but military only-common fuel).
