[Vwdiesel] exhaust systems

When I installed my most recent mTDI AHU into a vanagon I initially used a
22" 2.5" straight through Magnaflow muffler. The rest of the exhaust was
all 2.5" from the turbo (m-vnt15) back and consisted of a 90° mandrel bend
and about 10 more inches of tailpipe that ended in another small bend at
the end. I recently replaced the 22" Magnaflow with just straight pipe
(used the muffler on another 1.6td vanagon conversion) and the sound
difference between muffler and straight pipe was minimal. I will be adding
a universal 16" diesel cat shortly as I have heard they do a very good job
of muffling and with just the straight pipe it is a bit droning. Reducing
emissions is a bonus. The engine burns clean enough that clogging the cat
shouldn't be an issue.
