While a worn bushing can cause the belt to walk off the pulley, it is not
the only reason the belt can walk and is NOT an indication that the pump
needs to be rebuilt.  I have seen many pumps that did not track right and
almost all of them were due to a maladjusted pump bracket (which is the way
the tracking is adjusted).  In fact I have seen BRAND NEW pumps that did
not track right.  The test for the pump bushings is to remove the belt and
try to move the pump shaft back and forth in the direction that the belt
pulls it and then perpendicular to that direction.  If the movement is
significantly more in the direction the belt pulls, then the pump bushings
are worn.
