[Vwdiesel] Head Gasket Replacement Non VW

I have an iron block/aluminum head V6 that I am doing head gaskets on. The
original head gasket had some sort of sealant on it. It left a mess on the
block that must be scraped off or wire brushed off. My question is how to
keep the scrapings out of the engine. I can plug the oil supply ports no
problem but there are too many coolant ports to try plugging. Is compressed
air or vacuum cleaner sufficient to clean the bores?

Any thoughts on this?
