In Ontario, Canada, the provincial gov't has, for taxpurposes, defined
motor fuel as "any substance that may be used to fuel a motor vehicle
operated on public roadways".
Then temporarily exempted biodiesel, but not ethanol blends.
Here, the fuel taxes go in to "General Revenue" , which means they don't
have to spend all of it on roads, they can 'madeoff' with the rest for pork
barrelling.
I seldom let on I am using veggie oil, and only to kindred souls.
So far there are too few of us to make the tax "fishing" attractive, but if
it gets common, they'll be after us. As with all things having to do with
death and taxes, they enable the legislation first, then fish the more
productive ponds first. (like speeding).
The other (selfish?) thing is, the more drivers who discover the joys of
oiling, the less oil will be available free for each of us.
I had one "supplier" whine that he should be charging me for my benifit in
getting rid of his waste oil. The time will come!
