[Vwdiesel] Cam time for brothers BEW engine

There is a small chamfer (looks like you took a grinder the the 90 degree edge on the lob to creat a 45 degree flat spot) that is .020 deep. It isn't big so you have to have good eyes looking at it with good light to see. If at the peak of the lob it is missing then you have worn too far. There is no way to ispect the lifter but the cam will generally show the damage from the lifter. I find it best to mark out all 8 valve lobs on a paper and mark which ones are good/bad as you have someone bump the starter to inspect each lob with the valve cover off. You need to remove the EGR valve. You can get by with leaving the timing belt top cover on but it is easier with it off which if you take that off the top intake hose should also come off as it is hard to get both clips back on for the cover. Some people have 250K on the OEM BEW cams and some can't get over 40K on them. If you buy franks cam he would tell you the procedure but it basically is running the engine in a different oil for 500 miles, drain and change the filter and then put a 505.01 rated 5-w40 oil in there for the rest of the time.

That is a pretty good warrenty for either of them. What is proper break-in procedures for a CAM?
I am at 150K on my BEW engine and I am sure I have some missing material on my cam lobes by now, just not sure how much.

Looks like my brother now needs a cam. We already had Franko6's cam parts from tdiclub for the install but we had waited for the actual cam till we needed them and they were more proven on whether a stage 2 was in order or an OEM one. One of the lobs is starting to show marks and wearing down on the chamfer edge (.020 missing when that is gone). So we both have the nitrided lifters, the none torque to yeild bolts Frank sells, tandem pump seal, cam seal and bearings that were modded to change the oil flow. Franks cam has been out for around 8 months and the only issue was one person with over 200 hp complained it didn't give him a bump in HP. I have heard some issues with the Colt regrind cams and the new cams just cam out a month ago so they aren't proven at all yet. The cam place that is done Franks cams have done it for longevity more then HP. The HP is just a side benifit. The bearing surfaces have also been Chrome plated. Will have to see what turns out with it. Frank has
a waranty of 3 years unlimited miles if you use the parts we already have along with proper oil and breakin procedure. Colt warranty is 3 years 300K miles.
