[Vwdiesel] Turbine blade nicks

Generally, cranking the starter doesn't bend a rod, on these anyway. I'm sure we've all seen a fair share of blown head gaskets where they no longer turn over when they sit. I've yet to see a rod bent from that. Just not a lot of momentum built up in half a rotation of the engine.

I've also seen a lot of leaky valve stem seals. There's not enough residual oil in the head to lock up a cylinder AFIK and you can't get ALL of it to leak down one stem. Almost more like the head gasket pressure hole leaking but no pressure, no oil flow. If it's one of the return holes, then that'd put a majority of the head's oil into a cylinder but there'd have to be a lot of blowby. Leaking turbo will puddle up in the turbo housing or the intercooler. Perhaps it started up, blew all the accumulated oil out of the intercooler, into the engine and "slugged" it. That COULD bend a rod. I just can't think of much else that'd put enough oil into a cylinder, to lock up the engine.

y first thought is what is your air filer and air intake path look like? Is
here any dust anywhere in there? If so-you "dusted" your turbo. More common
hen you think in the construction/mining industry with as much equipment as
hey have and the hours they get. A leak pre turbo will suck in dirt. A leak
fter turbo will just blow out compressed air so it isn't as big of an issue
fter the turbo.
Are you saying the oil was getting through from the camshaft side of the head
hrough the valve seal and after shut down it would leak enough through to hydro
ock? How did you know you hydro locked? If you found it by turning the engine
ver then I can't believe you don't have a bent rod. Not to mention the valve
eal wouldn't have failed overnight so you likely did several mini hydro locks
efore finally catching it.
Sorry-no spare AHU turbo. I have a 17/22 VNT turbo waiting for install though
long with some PD150 injectors. Too bad I need the clutch and exhaust before I
ven attempt that not to mention the intercooler tract upgrade. I do have my old
AZ turbo though I was keeping so I could rebuild someday if needed. Far as I
now it worked before pulling-I just didn't trusted used turbos at that point in
y life. I have more experience now.
