It all kind of depends a little. It should put out almost 10.5 psi on a good pull, barely 1psi on a flat cruise @ 55mph. If nothing's screwed up then low boost is from low fueling or restricted exhaust. Restricted intake should make for black smoke, and possibly low boost. The KKK turbos have an adjustment, the Garretts don't really. If everything else is good then I'd check the blow off valve. My BAE only put out that much boost when I got it but that was definitely low fueling on an aftermarket setup. They don't necessarily hop right up to 10psi on the stock setup but they certainly should be well above 5 unless someone turned down the fueling or the exhaust plugged up.
Dad's Passat recently got a 3" exhaust. Jerry showed me the cat and asked HOW it ran? He told Dad it should've come in on a tow truck! The cat was totally blocked yet it actually ran pretty good. Pipe had broken off just a bit behind the cat.

Hi Loren and all listers
I just put a boost gauge on my Turbo Fox diesel with its stock 1.6 VW turbo diesel. It pulls about 5 lbs. Is this normal? Is the stock turbo adjustable? I do have a bigger turbo from an Audi 5000 gas rig.
