I know it isn't straight highway driving but I have gone as far as 723 miles on a tank of diesel in my 91 TD jetta. Took right at 14 gallons to fill it up to where the fill neck was full of fuel.

My daughter and wife were watching that with me. We were all saying the TDI would do it easily. It'd have done better with a chip. They didn't mention if they stuffed the extra 3 or so gallons in it that will fit. (The wagon will hold about 5!) We just drove Dad's over 550 miles and it's well over a half tank left!
Indeed cool to see the diesel get some recognition, even though they really didn't recognize it. It should've kicked the other car's rather than just beating them.

Was just watching Top Gear. They had a driving challenge - 700+ miles from eattle to San Francisco on one tank of fuel. Rutlege (sp?) used a 97 Passat DI and easily beat a 2013 BMW driven by Tanner(I really hate that guy) and the ther guy drove….a Ford F350 pickup with a full tank of gas and a full tank of ropane (still used up both tanks of fuel which was actually cheating anyway).
he Passat easily won the race and had fuel left over even though the other guys ut 400 lbs of cat litter in the trunk. Always good to see an old diesel erform well on a national stage. Hayden
