this is more like what I have come to expect - some success (see Rolf's
e-mail) and some failures, but mostly a matter of having to deal with
people at the border (this is going BOTH ways) who each have their own
very fluid interpretation as to what the law actually IS.

Best of luck to anybody who tries to bring this (or any)
Canadian vehicle into the US (without a lawyer by his side).

Several years back my sister attempted to buy and bring to the US a
Canadian-spec Toyota pickup truck. After calling the right folks and
getting the supposedly right paperwork together, she was turned away at
the border by different folks with a whole different interpretation of
the rules. They told her she needed to call Toyota and get a letter of
conformity to EPA regs, of course when she called Toyota they had no
idea what she was talking about.

Ended up wasting a lot of time and money and giving up the whole idea.

Ah, that was my confusion… yes, the DOT laws are a little
different, and that’s where the 25 year rule is… though it seems
there are exceptions.

Either way, $7,000 for a ’93 Eurovan is a bit steep. KBB says maybe
$4K private, $5K retail for a US spec gas model.

WOW> I hadn't heard of those before!! Guess I am out of touch. The
EPA ones are for emissions, What about the NHTSA/DOT laws for safety
standards (that is what gets us coming the other way)??

The "25 years old" rule is still in effect? Because I found this which
seems to suggest otherwise:

And specific to the '93 Eurovan:
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/canadian/canlis95.htm
"… All 1988-1995 Canadian automobiles (gasoline or diesel fueled),
light-duty trucks (gasoline or diesel fueled) and heavy-duty gasoline
fueled engines are considered by EPA to conform with U.S. emission
requirements. …"
Am I missing something?
