[Vwdiesel] Fish-tail

Hi Bryan
Main reason for my silence, has been due to my computer dieing with all my links on it. I only just managed to get back to my provider's email a few weks ago. There were 52,000 emails on it! I see the Yahoo site is a porn site now!!.

The fleet of 3 QTD's are fine. Alas Mary's mum [the oldest GTD driver in the world AFAIK]; died suddenly a couple of years ago. Car is parked up. I was going to use the engine in one of my 'Q's.

Trouble is; the engine in the Q won't die, despite still knocking from the valve to piston clashes, from my overzealous head skim, and despite my apparently contraversial honing/deglazing, burns practicallly no oil, and just has a leak from a front seal, but not enough to reach the ground.
There was some headgasket cylinder to coolant leakage this winter which should have been an excuse to change gasket from 2 hole to 3, in an attempt to stop knocking but retorquing bolts stopped the leak... :o) ... :o(

Perhaps the sound I was looking for was a throaty one. I wonder what creates it? No exhaust on a TD gives a jet engine sound, but I don't want that ...[again ;o)]My old exhaust on the Audi engine was slightly fish-tailed. Most googling goes to motor cycle stuff

Greetings all.
Just renewed my exhaust on my QuantumTD waggon. Cleverly, both the waggon and the sedan need a 6" extension piece to allow for being 5" longer than the fastback.

I am just going to wedge apiece of old exhaust onto the end of the muffler, however I seem to remember being able to change the sound of the exhaust in the 1970's and earlier with fish-tails etc.

Anyone remember the theory of squeezing the end, other than the need for back pressure for gassers?

My old 'Q' with an Audi engine had a pleasent rumble... What makes a rumble ?

Mark
