Did not think I would find it so quickly. I used this on my 91 jetta. Worked pretty good. Hardest part was removing the adapter on the steering column. ken

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Starting issues 91 Jetta TD
OK, this morning when I went to start the jetta it didn't do anything other
than the HVAC fan was on 2 and when I turned the key to start it stopped
running but nothing else happened. The radio kept playing as well. This
has happened only a few times in the past 4 months. Today was the only day
that it wouldn't start after turning the key off and back on again. This
time it took four try's before it started.
No other noises or anything like that, it is kind of like the ignition
switch is not making contact to excite the starter. But when it does it
starts just fine no other issues. I don't think it is the battery or the
starter because it starts like normal.
I found out in the Bentley repair manual, in section 11 page 33, 34 the
removal procedures for the ignition switch. Looks pretty straight forward.
Anyone accomplish this and is there anything to look out for? I can get a
new switch from Car Quest for $12.
Thanks,
Nick
