>From all the UOA's I have read and a friend that I send mine to, a K&N will
provide better airflow but at the cost of filtering. Most do not clean and
oil it properly so they get MAF issues. We just stick with a Fram paper
filter. Works really well according to our UOA's and they are inexpensive.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] air filters

Tonight, I got to see a '06 TDI Jetta that Dad recently bought.  A lot of
miles, but his wife wanted an automatic to drive around town.  He's been
doing some maintenance on it to make sure it's good to go.  Looking at it,
it sounded like one of the air lines to or from the intercooler had come
off.  Not a huge problem, but another thing for him to take care of.  About
that time, I saw the K&N sticker on the intake.  I asked him if someone had
put that on there, he said he had.

I'd heard that the oil on those K&N filters gunks up the MAF.  Any
thoughts?  I just put the proper MANN filter in there and called it a day.

I'm still trying to figure out what possessed him to put that in there.
It's always seemed like the sort of thing you buy if you spend too much time
idling around cheap parts stores.  Maybe I need to check on what all he's
been doing since he retired........
