The 1.6 non/-turbo vanagon oil pump has 30mm gears and the pickup tube has
an integral pressure control valve. That valve is sized to the 30mm pump.
The AAZ has a 36mm pump and so the pressure control valve of the stock
non-turbo vanagon oil pump is not sized appropriately. Best is to purchase
a 1.6TD vanagon oil pump, all of which are now 36mm and appropriately sized
for the AAZ engine.
IMO, the windage tray is most helpful in the vanagon install. It reduces
the amount of oil sloshing up on extended right-hand turns. If you have
one already I would definitely use it.
