[Vwdiesel] TTY bolts

The thing you need to think about is what will happen if the bolt breaks and are you willing to take the risk. Have I reused some-yes. But there are plenty I never would. There is a lot of stories of TTY bolts breaking on TDI motor mounts as they weren't replaced and 20K later the engine falls off the mount. Doesn't happen to everyone but it happens enough. 

 

The whole reason for TTY bolts and locking fasteners is people don't know how to use a torque wrench on the bolts properly anyways so you design the human part out of it. I am sure there is other reasons but that is one of the reasons.

The shop manual said to measure the thickness of the bolt at its thinnest point, and if it too stretched, then pitch it, otherwise it was OK to reuse. IIRC, it was either a Mercedes diesel (mid-sixties 200D) or a Porsche.
