When I started the GTD project, I always had in mind to have the pump rebuilt by Giles up in Canada. My thinking was that this would take place some time in the future. Well, a few weeks ago, I noticed that the car was having trouble starting, especially when at temperature. it would turn over but it just didm't seem to be getting fuel and then it would suddenly "catch" and start normally with NO black smoke (a clue to it not getting fuel). It progressively got worse until it would run the battery down. Out of frustration today, I installed my spare, non-GTD but turbo pump (thanks Bryan B!) to see if the problem might be the pump, sure enough, it started (after a fews minutes while the line bled) and now starts on the first 3 or 4 turns of the starter. My thinking is that the lift pump or the main pressure pump has gone out in the GTD pump. Oh well, so it takes a trip to Canada in a few weeks. I also have been working hard on the A/C. This being Texas, I simply cannot survive without it. Well after replacing virtually everything except the compressor, I have to replace the compressor!!!! Oh, well, that will make EVERYTHING in the system, except the hoses new so I expect it will eventually freeze my butt off by the time I am finished. I have the car about half sanded and primered in getting it ready for paint but first I need to get it inspected and licensed. Hopefully this week. All this AND I am working on my 68 beetle too!!! Oh the fun of summer, I only have about 8 weeks to really dig in a get these two cars going before classes start again. I try to do most of the work in the mornings when it is relatively cool. Today it only got to about 93 but I really feel for you guys in the far west with the temps well above 100. We have 103 and 104 here the other day but nothing like 115-120 like they are seeing out west. Take it easy, drink electrolytes and take MULTIPLE breaks. Hayden
