  Got the Passat running yesterday!  I'd managed to test the 109 relay in Dad's and it was fine.  Found an ECU for $50 and picked up a few other things for the car from them as well.  :-)  With no wiring diagram I just plugged it in, put a test light to the IP and turned the key on and off quickly.  There was a flash of light from the tester so I turned it back on, waited a second and fired it up!
  Apparently the ECU fried BEFORE I tried testing anything since nothing else seems to be wrong.  THEN I realized I have a bad compressor so  gotta get that fixed pronto!  Gee thanks for the additional reminder there Hayden.  :-P
