Not sure, the closes Beetle I have is a '72 std. I do know that the '75 Rabbit had fresh air vents that ducted clear to the front, behind the bumper. Never drove that one but I'll bet it had way cooler fresh air than what comes in through the hot, hood vents, into a hot firewall and THEN into the car. More similar to the 914 vents. Don't recall where the inlet for those was though...

Sorry it's off-topic of diesels, but have any of you who have owned *both* a
K1 Rabbit and a 70's vintage Super Beetle (McPherson strut front
uspension) ever parked the two of them side-by-side, popped the hoods and
ompared the geometry of the strut towers between the two of them? Or for
hat matter, are the front struts for the '73 or later Super Beetle the
same* struts as the Rabbit/Golf of the same year? Or maybe the Polo?
I've always wondered why there was a grill under the front bumper of the
uper Beetle, since there was no need for a grill there. Makes me wonder if
t was a test-bed for the development of the Rabbit/Golf.
