[Vwdiesel] vw mk2 jetta TD oil filter removal

I have a 1991 vw jetta turbodiesel with A/C and power steering and big bumpers. I decided to change the oil and filter. I had to drive it halfway up some ramps to gain access to the oil pan plug. I got the oil pan drained, and removed the oil filter, but.....I cannot get the oil filter out from between the front of the pan, the front engine mount and the power steering lines. I even broke the lower plastic gate on the radiator flap getting the filter wrench on to loosen the filter. Do I have to remove the front engine mount or do I have to use a jack on the engine to be able to get the oil filter out and in? Bentley does not  help on this. Any ideas?
