I always have a hard time letting things go. More so when I know they run. I just got the 86 Red Golf diesel running today. did the IV drip style with a 2 gal container on the right side of the engine bay and a hand pump. I tried my best to tap into the 3/4 full tank of fuel but I can't get it sucked up even bypassing the fuel filter. Like something is plugged?
I towed behind the truck and once I switched to the larger 2 gal container and things were warm from towing it fired up. Was smoky at first but it seemed to clear up fine and actually not be bad on power. The nice thing is it has working power steering and cruise control. I can't tell if the AC works just yet. 5th gear-isn't there at all but I have two spare tranny's. Clean interior with cloth seats two tone tan color. Rear wiper/washer. There is some fender rust starting. I was thinking close to $1750 for it since it does have those features. Any less and I think I may keep. I do have to split what I get with my brother.
I also have I think 4 rotor vacuum pumps to replace the diaphram style $100 each. And two injection pumps in unknown condition from parts rabbits/golfs $100 each.
If I do fix the golf I need to figure out how to fix the fuel supply issue? It goes back to the tank just fine. I attempted to pressurize the tank as well but didn't get anything to the front. There also is a oil leak on the lower front of the engine. Any thoughts on what would cause that? I don't have much time to look with expensive fuel going to the tank from my 2 gal can. Glow plugs may be bad as well but I can't tell again with the fuel issue happening. Lights and wipers all seem to work OK. I would need to do a timing belt and replace the other V-belts. Is there a tensioner pulley for the top alt belt? What a mess of V-belts. If the AC doesn't work is there anyway to bypass the AC and just pull the compressor all together and leave the power stearing and other items?
Anyway to transfer the cruise control to the rabbits? I would rate body condition as a 7 out of 10 since there is a little fender rust starting and a strap on the back left side. I have a nice set of winter tires I would put on this as well if I were to keep. This would become a winter beater in the end with me so I would like someone to keep it that will need it/use it like I do with my two rabbits.
