[Vwdiesel] Speedometer Odometer

Might be a broken cable or the drive gear in the transaxle may have stripped or popped out
of place (one bolt to pull it out for a look). Or the odo drive gear may have jammed and
that will stop the speedo from working. Easy to reach up and remove the speedo cable on
the back of the speedo and try spinning the end and see if the cable is good or not.
One other tip on the odo drive gear that I mention on the web page below is to drill out
the gear so it is no longer press fit. I found mine cracked after the first repair when I
just glued it. I think the stress of the press fit causes the gear to crack from the
center out to the root of one of the gear teeth. Then the force of the drive gear on
those teeth causes the crack to open up and then the gear slips. So by drilling the gear
out then gluing the crack together and then gluing the gear to the shaft relieves the
stress in the brittle plastic.
