[Vwdiesel] Car totaled

With my experience after being rear ended, I felt they underpaid me for what it would have taken for me to replace my Golf with a like car and after fighting for a couple months and having them make up excuses for why they couldn't accept any of the comps I found, I ended up just taking their offer, and I cuss at USAA any time I see any of their freaking commercials.

If possible, try to convince them to raise the price for the upgrades.  Show receipts.  That may help you some in getting a better price.

I agree that it is very likely worth buying it back and selling the block, and pulling all your good parts.  Hell, if it was a 1Z I'd be interested potentially.  While the additional parts should hopefully increase the overall value of the totaled car, it shouldn't change the salvage value.  Don't tell them you want it back until you agree on the value of the totaled car.  Then find out what the buy-back value was.

Could be you could buy it back and cash the ins check to replace the melted wires and hoses...?

I'm still driving my totaled, rear ended Golf.  I'm convinced that the trailer hitch I built (largely copying your design) is what saved the car enough to be driveable today.

Well, since the AC compressor died today, I won't be driving it for a few days...

Buy the car back, pull the motor, sell the rest. Someone will pay
handsomely for just the motor.
