You didn't describe the accident. Were you or your wife in the car? Was it a rear ender? Whiplash? If so, you may wish to talk to an attorney. This might give you some leverage if dealing with the other parties insurance company. If a comprehensive loss & collision with a deer or other animal is a comprehensive loss as that happened to me about three years ago. I had & still have GMAC insurance thru Good Sam & I felt they were very fair with me. The car, a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 was totaled & they valued the price on the retail value of my car on the value of what 3 similar Focus' sold for in my area. They arrived at my loss based on what it would take to repair my Focus with NEW parts, not the price of junkyard parts prices which are usually much less. They determined my loss at somewhere well over $4000 as I recall less a salvage price of $750 & the $250 deductible. I decided to keep the car as it was worth fixing since the frame was not damaged. The cost of a used hood, grill, 2 headlights, & right fender along with paint came to around $500. However my Focus is now branded with a "salvage" title which lessens its value. However, not all states brand salvaged cars with a "salvage" title. If the value of the parts you can salvage from your car are more than what your insurance company allows for the salvage value, then keep your car. You have a right to do that if you so choose.
Good Luck.
