[Vwdiesel] winter update, and something else

so the scheduled cooling system maintenance is on hold until i can determine the source of the oil leak. the leak/seap is on the pump side between injectors 2 and 3. while there is a block ventilation plate that could be the culprit, as carefully as possible i will determine the source. that said, i have done a initial search for an oil additive that glows when a black light is waved in front of oil containing it. i found one source for 25.00, which seems high any thoughts from the list on this. the previous owner had said there was approx 40k on a motor rebuild(now 50k). it was clean and ran well and the price was very right as it had some electrical demons.
from what i read, any attempt to retork head bolts should be done on a warm, not hot engine. i don't hold much hope that this is a solution just an assessment of what is in front of me.
what kind of time might i have before a head leak develops into a bigger problem.

> The diesel headgaskets rarely get water into the oil unless it totally blows. If the seal around the oil passage (in the head gasket) fails *usually goes kidney shaped) then they sometimes leak into the oil and will often seep out between the head and block. It's the second head bolt from the tranny, on the pump-side of the engine, about #3 injector.
> Don't think I've ever noticed burning glycol smoke from one of these diesels. When the gasket goes it leaks a bit and usually blows out rather than leak in, then it blows really good.

Light coolant loss is usually from a hose fitting, failing, plastic, head fitting or water pump just starting to leak. Heater cores and radiators can leak lightly as well and in the right weather, you don't notice unless you really check for it.
