Theoretically, the more work the turbo does, the greater the drop in
temperature across it, so at full glowing red manifold, your temperature
drop across the turbo is the most... sort of exactly the worst moment to
have inaccuracy. (More work being done by turbo= more energy "used" to
create mechanical energy (pressure) in the turbo intake side=temp drop post
turbo)
Pre turbo location is best, and I like to adjust to get things where I need
to have no input in things beyond keeping it on the road, and one heavy foot
on the pedal. To say, a garden variety idiot should be able to drive the
thing foot to the floor for as long as they care to hold it there, and to do
harm. To have it so you have to watch the gauge is inviting trouble at some
point. I drove a car like that for some time, and it gets old fast when you
are in traffic, big hills, noisy passengers, good scenery, and you are stuck
baby-sitting the motor. IF the motorhome is heavy, maybe an intercooler is
an option to keep the temps down and have that peak power... such as it is
with a 1.6d -james

I have rabbit pickup motorhome which I built. It currently has 1.6td with
egt probe located at after turbo downpipe where it curves downward. Because
of weight, 14 inch bus tires/wheels and wind resistance it can fly into red
zone on the gauge so I am careful to slow down when that happens usually on
long upgrades. I cruise about 55-60mph using and stay in green or yellow
temp zone when on flat terrain. Sorry Im overseas now so cant say the exact
temperature. Im happy with the "smoke screw" adjustment. My question is how
accurate is this gauge with the probe at the curved downpipe exhaust turbo
location?
