As I said in a earlier post, several years ago, I spoke with a local turbo specialist. He has done work on all kind of diesels so I asked him about the placement of the EGT probe. His response was that the exhaust pathway in our vehicles was so short, that it wouldn't make much difference where you put it. He said that the total temperature drop would most likely be 200 degrees F or less. Once a car is at opperating temperature, the hard parts tend to stabilize in temperature so that helps to keep temperature drops small. Besides, we have low volume exhaust manifolds and a relatively small turbo. Short pathways, little temperature drop. He told me that some of the diesel trucks have really long distances from the manifold to the turbo and out. He saw temperature drops of 400 degrees in some of these.

I know with several diesels that I've had, then temperature drop pre-turbo
to post-turbo has been max of 250 F. I set my fueling at a max temp of 1150
F under full boost, full load so that I don't have to monitor the exhaust
temp all the time while pulling hills.

Having seen the Isspro pre and post turbine gauges. I believe it was 150F
difference in the temps. May have been 200 F but 150 sticks in my head.
The same gauges, just different location of the green, yellow and red bands.
Temp has to drop across the turbine since energy is being removed.

I ran my Dasher at 1250F max boost. Only ran it there for 20 seconds or
so, at a time. Otherwise I kept it to about 1150F. I've had that engine
apart a couple times (still currently is with a cracked head bolt hole) and
nothing bad has happened to it from heat.
