[Vwdiesel] when to change fuel filter

thanks for the wix info loren, on some trucks lower fuel pressure can
result from a clogged fuel filter. how do we know the status of our vw fuel
filters, or is it just a miles of use change.

	If you keep getting good clean diesel the fuel filter lasts almost
forever it seems. If you are losing power or running rough you may have crap
in the diesel fuel filter.
	On a trip from WA to AL, MD,FL and home last year I got a shot of
bad diesel in Kansas heading East in my 1990 1.6 turbo diesel Fox Wagon. It
started running rough and not much power. Lucky for me I have a two tank
system and run alternate fuel much of the time. I switched over to alternate
fuel which has a separate fuel filter. I parked the car and changed the
diesel fuel filter. Running on alternate fuel I switched tanks of and on
till I had worked the air out of the diesel filter. The Kansas diesel must
have had a lot of water in it as I let water out the bottom of the fuel
filter twice and then changed to a second clean filter before I got rid of
the problem.
