Well I spent this fine spring break day pulling off the “oil cooler” and replacing it with a Volvo adaptor and small, 2 pass oil cooler. I then used two different grease cutters to clean the engine. First I emptied ½ bottle of simple green into the drained engine, filled the cooling system and ran the car until the thermostat opened and the fan ran. I then turned off the car and let it sit for 30-40 minutes. I then drained everything out added about ¼ cup of Dawn dish detergent and repeated the process. After 45 minutes, I drained the system again and then hooked up the hose to get a pressurized rinse and let it run for 16 minutes, drained everything again and refilled with new 50/50 antifreeze. I took the car for a drive for about 30 minutes and when I got home, all that is in the coolant bottle is pretty green coolant. So……Tomorrow, I will take it out on the highway for a real test. I still have a AAZ head gasket coming just in case. Which brings up the following, I installed ARP studs when I first got the engine. Will it be possible to remove the head/manifolds intact without removing the studs? In other words, is there enough room to lift the head off and clear the studs? I will let everyone know the result of my test drive tomorrow. Everyone keep your fingers crossed. Hayden
