I love the difference the 1.9 AAZ td made when I swapped it in place of the
1.6 na! When it overheated and cracked the head I decided to rebuild it and
overlooked building it into a MTDI. Still kick myself in the arse

yeah, the canada 1.9na was in the golf up to 97, they even offered the 97
golf as a 1.9 td or 1.9tdi, and Canada Jetta carried on through at least 01
offering a td. I have a 1.9td in my caddy, very backward compatible, it
bolted straight up to the A1 transaxle, but be sure to use the right length
clutch rod. The gear ratios in the 97td were terrible however, something
about not making smoke if you always rev the piss out of it was the reason,
but it's almost 1000rpm too high IIRC. Been a while since I was behind the
wheel of one.
Sounds like I should try to talk Andrew out of a 1.9tdi westy. That would
be an absolutely awesome combination of vehicle and powertrain. :)

nope, you can put the 1.9NA in a rabbit, golf, jetta, or caddy, it will
just about bolt into any A2 car chassis, not sure about A1 the late 70's
stuff. The bolt pattern for the motor mounts are all the same.it fits.

Sounds like he's trying to go 1.6 na to a 1.9 na. Someone was snowing him
about one in an early rabbit
