Re: Quattro wheel bearings

Well..... I needed the rear wheelbearings (why rear? lonnnnnng story.....)
done on my Turbo Coupe and I elected to let a pro do it for me. I had
heard the requirement for special tools and also that the job is a real
sumbitch "sucks job" to do. He told be he really bloodied his hands
doing the job. I don't recommend a DIY approach to Quattro wheelbearings.
I do know someone that has the tools and could possible do the job for
you at less cost vs a shop (he has low overhead) and he is a real Quattro
expert. He's in the Leominster MA area. If you are interested I could
put you in touch with him. He has done work for me before (lower control
arm bushings) and does good work. He rallies a 4000Q. My SOs '86 4000Q
is going to need the fronts done soon and I think I'll let this guy
do them for me. Point of information, you can typically let these Quattro
wheelbearings go a lonnnnnnnng time without any adverse effects beyond
the noise generated. Your mileage may vary.
