Re: Audi brake fluid

Thanks to all who responded... I think I paniced last night and as you
and the audi dealer have confirmed, there is no problem with using
generic DOT4 brake fluid.

The part that really confused me was the owner manual. Page 9[0-9] has
description of brake fluid/reservoir and the power steering right next
to each other. Next to brake fluid, there are lots of warnings about the fluid
and recommendation that DOT4,... needs to be used. There is
a reference to page 83 which specifies brake fluid and power steering
fluid to be identical with an AUDI p/n. Remembering that
there was a discussion regarding the importance of power steering fluid
and realizing that I bought my brake fluid from good old Grand auto not
the Audi dealer caused the panic. As many of you have pointed out on some
audis the power steering hydraulic is used to provide the boost instead of
vacuum. My car happens to be the vacuum boosted....

Thanks for the phone number for the german auto place, I managed to order
the master cylinder for $~180 and also bought a timing belt for 1/2 of
what the dealer charges.

Happy Thanks Giving,

David

Ps: Has anybody changed a timing belt on a 90 (5 banger)? The Bently manual
    is pretty useless....
