I dont think that you have done any damage, but I would suggest that
you take your car in for a brake inspection, They are usually free at
shops like Midas and such.  As for the brake light.  I get the same thing
when I pump my brakes too much. Try it sometime, put the car in Park nad
start pumping away on those brakes, you should see that light come up
pretty soon.  The thing is that light comes on when when you pump too much,
use too much brakes, or are low on hyraulic fluid, so it can be confusing
as to what is wrong.
