I have Koni's on a VW GTI and Bilsteins on my 1982 4000S. They
are both good shocks, but I have had to replace two of the Konis
since I installed them. They were replaced under warranty but it
is annoying to have to take the front end apart. Maybe it has
something to do with the lower springs and bumpy roads in Mass.
The Bilsteins seem just as good as when I put them on five-six
years ago, although they are a little on the firm side but no
obnoxiously so. They are about the same as the Konis on the GTI
adjusted at half way.

The Koni's for the GTI are adjustable on the front without taking
anything apart. For the rear, you need to remove them, but they
are easier to take off than the front.
