could be just the front strut bearing poping up and down (as designed, at
least in my 84 4000 Q ).  I get a simular sound (clunk) every time I change
directions sharply at slow speed, or go in reverse with a turn.   It got
worse over time, and especially when I put in stiffer shocks.   I guess
I've gotten use to it by now.   ---JCG.
