strange noise

Uh oh.

My car ('88 90Q) is making a strange sound from the front left suspension.
When the car goes over a bump, or accelerates from a stop, there's
a "thump" that I can hear and feel thru the steering wheel and pedals.

Any ideas what this might be?  Is it serious, requiring immediate attention,
or can I live with it (and save up $$ to get it fixed)?

          Check the tie-rod, ball joint and control arm bushings.
          Could also be a strut bearing.
