Electric seat switch

I seek wisdom from the wise ones.

The 4-way round knob on the left side of my '85 5000T's power seat 
is acting up. It moves the seat up or down, but not forward or backward.
Has anyone experience this before ? Is this due to the motor or just 
the switch ?

I feel a soft click on the steering wheel and the left front wheel 
at times when making turns,  and this problem produce a louder noise
when I back up with the steering wheel turned. Does anyone know what 
kind of problem this is ? My previous 85 5000T had this same problem, 
and it turned into (may be just coincidently) a metal grinding noise as 
though the outer CV joint or the wheel bearing go bad. I got rid of the
car before having had the chance to find out what the problem was. 

How difficult is it to replace the trip computer ?
