I remember reading many years ago (before I had an Audi) of this problem 
with the 5000s. Because the pedals are kind of close together (old Audis only) 
people would put their cars in gear when they were stepping on the gas 
instead of the brake.

This affected only the 5000 automatics. There was a retrofit. Some device that 
prevents shifting out of park unless the brake was pushed.

The GT is based on the 4000 chassis and never had this problem. Also, I believe
 all GTs are 5 speeds, again unaffected.
