Brake Idiot light questions?

Hi all,
I remember there has been a thread going here for a while about brake idiot 
lights.  Not having a problem, or so I thought, I basically ignored it.
For a week or two I have noticed that when I stab my brakes the idiot light comes on for a short flash and then goes out while the brakes are still being
applied.  This AM it took 2 or 3 seconds for the light to go out after 
releasing the handbrake.

Any suggestions on what I should be lookng at as the source of the condition?
What repair(s) might be necessary?
