First off is to make sure your brake fluid is is at its proper level. If it
is a tad low, the g forces of braking will cause the fluid to move forward
in the brake fluid reservior which will allows the fluid level sensor to
light the idiot light.

Make sure the hand brake is fully retracted, this ensues that the switch
which causes the idiot light to turn on goes to an open state. In my car, if
the handle isn't pushed down all the way, the light can stay on.
