Apparently it's true.  I recall the salesman very adamantly stating that the 
vehicle shouldn't be in motion when resetting the odometer.  However, I 
was under the impression that there's not a speedo 'cable', but an 
electrical connection to a servo in the transmission that controlled both
the speedometer and odometer (?).
