Re: Source for lifters/valves?
Dan...Try medication & diet before you go under the scalpel! Synthetic
15-50 oil (in my humble opinion) is better than what you're currently
using. I have it in an 86 5k which I got at 120k miles & now have 171k
miles. NO noises..NO oi consumption, changing the oil & filter @ 4-5000
mile intervals. Also, the 10 valve & I would presume the 20 valve also,
has a check valve in the engine block behind one of the oil pressure
sending switches that is supposed to help stop the lifters from bleeding
down at rest. I think it has to be removed to be checked.
Good luck! Ned Bennett
ps I almost forgot. The oil filter sb the oem design w/check valve
pps I almost forgot AGAIN(dummy)...That engine has an auxiliary vacuum pump
that is attached to the left side of the cylinder head and is driven by a
plunger off the camshaft (just like a lifter). I'll bet $ that THIS is the
problem (how's that for cheap talk?). Just take off the pump, take out the
plunger, reattach the pump and either the noise is there or not. The car
doesn't need the pump so we've been running them like this, without the
plunger. You have the right miles for this problem.
And have some more good luck
