Re: unidentified noise in 90



I had a similar problem with my '86 4000CS quattro. It was especially bad 
on cold mornings in the winter. It turned out to be the alternator. This 
was some 100k miles ago. Seems to have done the trick--though I'll still 
get a bit of sound when it's really cold (15 F or lower) until things 
warm up. I agree it can be quite annoying.
